Best practice shows that regular fitness assessments have a significant impact of membership retention and the member’s adherence for regular exercise. It also offers a good opportunity for fitness staff to interact with members and ensure their programme/regime is effective for them.
The protocol for all clubs is as follows;
On joining
Complete PARQ and complete Vital Health Check (Week 1)
Lifestyle Review (questionnaire)
Height & weight, BMI, Body Fat %
Blood Pressure, Resting Heart Rate
Sit and Reach
Peak Flow
VO2 Predicted fitness test
Week 12 – Quick review
Check suitability of programme and complete Quick Review (12 weeks)
Weight, BMI, Body Fat %
6 months – Reassessment
Complete Health Check (Re-assessment every 6 months)

This assessment report will also provide a comparison from previous assessments.
6 Monthly Routine Check
Thereafter members should be offered a 6 monthly check. This has a dual purpose as it demonstrates the physical output from their training and it will also highlight any health risks.
